A recent poll conducted by Spry Strategies revealed that the majority of Californians are still rejecting gender ideology despite the legislative push of state Democrats to erase biological reality.
According to the poll, conducted last month on 1,000 prospective voters in California, only 22 percent of respondents believe that sex is not binary compared to 62 percent who believe in the gender binary (male and female). This is despite state legislation pushed by Democrats allowing people to change their legal gender on government documentation since 2019.
The survey also found that 70 percent agree that the definition of a woman is someone “biologically born female.” This percentage is reflected in gender-specific policies, wherein 59 percent of respondents believe that males who identify as females should not compete in women’s sports. Also, 64 percent say that males who identify as females should not be allowed where women change or shower.
Moreover, 60 percent of respondents believe that males who identify as females should not be housed in women’s prisons, with this percentage rising to 68 percent when the male has been convicted of sexual assault or domestic violence. Additionally, 61 percent of respondents oppose allowing men to identify as females in domestic violence shelters. The survey also indicates a notable 63 percent opposition to minors receiving sex-change hormones and gender-transitioning procedures, with the other option only garnering 21 percent support. Lastly, 72 percent of respondents believe that parents should be notified if their child identifies as transgender at school and 68 percent agree that parents should not lose custody of their child if they do not affirm their child’s “gender identity.”
“Across all these survey questions, at least two to three times as many California voters rejected demands that biological sex be erased as a matter of law and policy, compared to the number that supported erasure. This is a robust rejection across the board and a truly stunning result,” the report stated.
Democrats in California have been supporting transgender rights and passing pro-transgender laws for several years now.
In 2019, they passed the Gender Recognition Act, allowing people to change their gender on official documents. Another law, SB107, made California a “sanctuary state” for trans-identifying children by allowing state courts to determine who gets custody of out-of-state youth seeking gender-transitioning treatments in the state.
California requires shelters and other facilities to admit people based on gender identity, not biological sex, with no need for documentation like a driver’s license.
The state also permits men identifying as women to be housed in women’s prisons and employer health plans in the state must cover transgender-related procedures. Some cities in California, like San Francisco, even provide financial support and housing subsidies for transgenders, with initiatives also underway in Palm Springs and San Diego.
Meaning to say, California has passed more transgender-related laws than any other state, but this recent survey, compared to another conducted three years ago, highlights the growing opposition to pro-transgender laws in the state.
For instance, in 2020, 54 percent of people disagreed with allowing males to use female changing rooms. In the current survey, that number rose to 64 percent. The objection rate to the placement of transgenders in women’s prisons climbed from 46 percent in 2020 to 60 percent this year. Meanwhile, in the case of domestic violence shelters, 46 percent were against it in 2020 and in 2023, this opposition increased to 61 percent.
This data shows that public opinion is increasingly out of step with the implementation of pro-transgender laws.
“The longer Californians think about it and the more experience they have with the consequences, the less they are on board with the direction their state government is taking,” the report stated.
